Red-necked Grebe, Podiceps grisegena

Red-necked Grebe
Despite the fact that we regularly have a small number of wintering Red-necked Grebes every year in the SF Bay Area, I'd never photographed one of the species until my first visit to Alaska in spring of 2011. They were present in profusion, courting and nesting, and displaying their bright breeding plumage, on the lakes in the Anchorage area, especially Westchester Lagoon, and Lake Lucille in Wasilla, where Doug Lloyd introduced us to the beauties of his hometown.
