This was one of two adult birds that roosted during the day right along the creekbed of Miller Canyon, about a half-mile above Beatty's orchard, during early August 2008. The light at mid-day was hopelessly dappled, and I had to handhold my 500 mm lens at a contorted angle to get pictures at all, so I didn't end up with a good one. The lower one with the full body doesn't have the face, and the upper one with the face was more impacted by the dappled sunlight. But seeing this guy was a great experience, and I'm happy to take what I could get photographically. Thanks to Tom Beatty, Sr., for allowing access, and giving directions on how to find the bird. |
