Black-faced Ibis, Theristicus melanopus
This striking ibis has become rare, now found only in high tundra (paramo) on the slopes of two of the larger volcanoes that ring Quito, Cotopaxi and Antisana, usually near water. Below, a distant and blurred images of one of these birds in flight.
This bird appears to be leucistic, lacking the rich buff color seen on the head and neck of normally pigmented Black-faced Ibis of all ages.
